From June to August, it’s summertime and it’s finally time to dress down to take full advantage of the heat. Like the ladies, guys want to start the summer off right so it’s important to avoid common fashion mishaps that hastily earn men blistering fashion-style sun burns. The goal is to look natural, care free and inviting, not like you’re trying to revisit middle school! Let’s dive right in.
Avoid Capris & No Fold Ups (In General)
Capris are not man-material, point blank. At the end of the day they are a throwback to the 8th grade and should be avoided. Now, when it comes to folding up the pants legs of blue (preferably somewhat distressed) jeans that’s a whole different animal altogether. If you’re at the beach and don’t feel like going swimming, it looks pretty cool actually to stroll along getting your feet wet without trying to impress anyone. Here’s the key, only roll them up to about mid-shin level – never roll anything up all the way to the knees!
Vintage with Contemporary Flare
No short sleeve shirts with ties, ok? Seriously, that’s been a fashion blunder forever. If it’s revisiting the breezy zero responsibility days you’re after, mix some modern conservative flare with that care free look.
For example, elevate those really colorful swimming shorts with a clean, pressed, and decent fitting white long sleeve button up shirt and wear sandals. Ideally if it’s hot enough, skip the undershirt, otherwise have at it. The bright clean white long sleeve and sandals will effortlessly mature the look.
Deep V-Necks if You’ve Got the Chest for It!
Regular v-necks are so much sexier. Gaudy British guys seem to be the only creatures on earth that can really pull of super long v-necks regardless of their chests. Wait, Muslim men… and monks as well. Ok, but really the average dude shouldn’t be looking like a British rock star or a Kung Fu artist at the beach!
Go with a regular v-neck though because it’s better safe than sorry. However, it should be noted that if you have a chiseled chest and aren’t cocky about it, sure go for it, choose white and see how it goes.
Accessorize Your Summer
While men’s shoes are probably the most evaluated component of their style, proper accessories really make or break their look. Without accessories typical get-ups scream “meh” at the beach. A sporty watch, a loose necklace, an ankle bracelet even are all important. What about sunglasses, hats and belts? What about throwing something classy like cuff links in there?
So, what’s the moral of the story here? What’s the proverbial elevator pitch? Only this…
“If you’ve worked hard to look good through the summer, for whatever reason or impulse, then it’s worth your while to avoid capri-looks in general, always mix the past with the present, stick to regular v-necks and accessorize with humility.”
