A Guy’s Guide to Holiday Party Outfits
When Christmas is near, chances are you’ve already looked in the market for fun holiday party clothes. Any luck? With women, it’s easier because they can just opt for a fun looking dress. Men don’t have the luxury of having anything that even equals something as wonderful as a holiday-inspired dress. And if you’re like most men, there’s a good chance you’re still scratching your head. While that I-don’t-care-how-I-look-attitude can only take you so far, it wouldn’t make sense to miss out on what is probably the only time where “going all out” won’t make you look like a total fool.
The holiday party outfit only has one rule and it’s to just go for it. No matter how crazy festive your holiday outfit is, you’ll find that most of the crowd at the party are really down for festive wardrobes, even if yours turns out to be a little over the top. It’s what most people would call getting into the holiday spirit.
1. Layer it
If a typical wardrobe means a tailored suit, you can definitely bring on the holiday cheer by ditching your usual vest for a more holiday appropriate snowflake induced number with reindeers and what not. A neutral colored top jacket instantly polishes this look while still looking really fun and festive. Make your outfit look really eccentric with a red and black checked necktie and matching slip on shoes.
2. Go for plaids
There are two good reasons for plaid suits. One is that you can wear them separately as a statement piece. And two is that they can easily pass as an unconventional but perfectly appropriate for holiday suits. While the outfit can be easily look like it’s too much, help play it down with muted colors on the vest and bowtie or necktie. And don’t forget the Santa hat!
3. Dinner jackets
It’s always fun to add a statement piece, and for this certain occasion, nothing makes a suit more holiday friendly than a wild and unconventionally printed one button dinner jacket with the shawl collar thing going on. Did that sound too complicated? It’s really not. Wear it with any suit and you’ve got yourself one heck of an outfit. With this wardrobe, it’s all about the details so make sure to add a slim bowtie that matched the color of your jacket, pocket squares, and really cool cufflinks!
4. A little velvet
If there’s ever a perfect time to wear velvet, it would be for holiday parties. The warm texture and rich vibrant colors just scream happy holidays! Feeling ballsy? Pair your velvet jacket with micro-checkered pants. Don’t be afraid to get into the holiday spirit and just go for it.
