Obesity is really getting a bad rap. Study after study clearly shows that obesity itself, objectively isn’t a big deal. It’s what makes someone obese that is. It’s the junk food and packaged, over processed industrial food brimming over with unnatural and in some cases genetically modified ingredients that leads to health problems. In reality a man, within reason, shouldn’t be ashamed of sporting a little gut and some excess body fat at the beach. It’s normal!
There’s a big difference between dressing for the beaches around the rest of the world, and the beach culture in America, especially the west coast. If other people’s opinions mean about as much as a drop of rain on a rainy day, then pay no mind. However, if it’s an issue here are some things to consider:
Confidence is More Powerful than Style
Seriously, if it’s about looking sexy then nothing is more so than unshaking confidence. Not cockiness mind you, but pride in one’s self regardless of waistline size. No matter what you choose to wear, hold your head up high and take in the sun like you’re the only one on the beach.
Want to know a secret? There are countless good looking thin women that prefer heavier chunkier men because it drastically cuts down on the amount of female competition. In reality, regardless of location, chunky guys have nothing to worry about: it’s all in their heads.
Go for Relaxed Fit
Obviously tight beach wear on a fat guy looks a bit on the awkward and slightly comical side. However, the same could be said of the polar opposite. Excessively baggy shorts make a guy look bigger! It’s also far worse to wear a t-shirt than to just go shirtless. Instead, choose swimming shorts that go down to just above the knees and are relaxed-fit. Not too tight, and not too loose.
Keep It Simple
The beach really isn’t the place to make a fashion statement. Don’t try to be extra corny to draw attention from your physique. It doesn’t work. Dress your age, choose a relaxed fit, and don’t come off like you’re trying to impress anyone.
Jean shorts are perfectly fine, but wear a belt for the love of God. Don’t let those things hang way down until your underwear is showing or worse. If you don’t intend to do any swimming, then wear a pair of relaxed fitting jeans, but take your shirt off just to let people know you’re at the beach for other reasons than to impress them.
- NOTE: Back waxing costs maybe $30-$40 and lasts for a few weeks to a month. It’s totally worth it! Not only is it a confidence booster, but the message is incredibly soothing as well.
Add Some Personality
Always be yourself. So what if you’re chunky? So freaking what! If you’re in the western world, or America where the obesity rate is reaching 60-70%, who really cares anyway. You’ll probably fit right in.
